ABSTRACT
Attempts to dereference null result in an exception or a segmentation fault. Hence it is important to know those program points where this might occur and prove the others (or the entire program) safe. Nullness analysis of computer programs checks or infers non-null annotations for variables and object fields. Most nullness analyses currently use run-time checks or are simply syntactical (as in Eclipse and Idea) or incorrect or only verify manual annotations. We use abstract interpretation to build and prove correct a static nullness analysis for Java bytecode which infers non-null annotations. It is based on Boolean formulas, implemented with binary decision diagrams. Our experiments show it faster and more precise than the correct nullness analysis by Hubert, Jensen and Pichardie. We deal with static fields and exceptions, which is not the case of most other analyses. The result is theoretically clean and the implementation strong and scalable.

Fausto Spoto is associate professor at the University of Verona, Italy. He took a PhD in computer science from the University of Pisa, where he started working at the static analysis of computer programs. His current interests are related to the analysis of Java and Java bytecode programs.
He wrote a tool, Julia, which analyzes Java bytecode programs by using abstract interpretation and presents the results to the user, for verification as well as for code optimisation.

Some of you might wonder why this is incomplete and not very up to date. I created this on the 16th July 2007, just a few days after this game was officially announced. All I could work with were a few images and a low quality trailer. I analyzed them very carefully to tell you everything that was known about this game back then. Now the game was released and all in all I'm pleased with my work.
Here are some corrections and updates:
The official names of the tracks are Wario's Gold Mine, Mushroom Gorge and Moo Moo Meadows. Boo is not a playable character, it's actually King Boo. That's it!
There are of course a lot more tracks and characters in the game, but they hadn't been revealed when I created this video. You can also play as Donkey Kong and Baby Peach. King Boo and some other characters need to be unlocked, but I don't want to spoil the whole fun for you. ;)

As Halloween or All Saints Day approaches and every Tom, Dick, and Harry gets ready to sport their new Joker costume, I feel more and more inclined to write an analysis on the summer blockbuster The Dark Knight, the second installment in the new Batman trilogy. Ive seen the movie three times now, the third time at an IMAX theatre when I was in Chicago where some of the movie was filmed. Every time I watch the movie, I seem to gain new insight into the far reaching implications of the film, the symbolism, and the allegory. Now that most people have seen it, Id like to share my thoughts. If you were waiting for the Dark Knight to arrive on DVD, dont. Go see it. If you ignore this advice, now is the time to turn off this video unless you dont mind spoilers.
As an English major and creative writer, Ive been trained in literary theory and analysis. Now it just becomes a force of habit, a hobby, an unavoidable instinct to analyze or over-analyze every narrative I encounter including the story of my own life.
Upon the crash of the stock market in 1929, America found itself spiraling into the oblivion of the Great Depression. The world was already confronted with the despair, anxiety, and angst that resulted from the First World War, the first conflict to use the machine gun and produce massacre on a mass scale. In the midst of disillusionment, in the lawless age of prohibition when mobs ruled the streets of cities like Chicago, in the absence of heroes, DC comics decided to create them while society continued to plummet into the postmodern paradigm.
Why was The Dark Knight such a phenomenon, cleaving open box office records and enjoying unprecedented success as a story, in its most primitive form, about a comic book hero? To fully understand this, one would have to be familiar with the work of Joseph Campbell. Every culture recognizes the power of myth, cultivates it, and propagates it. Every culture has a hero, and every hero has a thousand faces.
The Dark Knight, like the original Star Wars, is successful because it makes use of universal themes, basic concepts found in the mythologies of once isolated cultures around the globe. It takes these concepts such as: good, evil, life, death, sacrifice, and then goes beyond them. In some respects, it reflects Miltons epic poem, Paradise Lost. But The Dark Knight, at the core of its being, is a morality play. I write this essay at the risk of coming off as didactic, a risk I am willing to take for the sake of truth. The Dark Knight is successful precisely because it is undeniably a Christian allegory. For the believer, the truth has withstood the test of time, over two thousand years, and continues to influence popular culture today. For the nonbeliever, the Bible remains the most influential work of fiction in the history of humanity and should be studied.
