When the sun sets on the Pacific, head over to the Village Center grocery store for some wine and S'mores makings, then stop by the beach for a campfire and family movie on the outdoor big screen.
Though you can visit just for the day, I recommend at least a weekend to fully enjoy everything the resort has to offer.
We loved our little 1-bedroom beachfront cottage, a Newport Beach vacation rental which comes with a sleeper sofa and a great loft for the kids. Amenities include free WiFi, TV/DVD, kitchen, and private master bedroom.
If you don't feel like cooking, consider a gourmet take-out picnic from the Daily Grill in Fashion Island, a top shopping and dining destination just blocks away in the city of Newport Beach.
Try to time your stay around the popular July 4 fireworks display at the Dunes, or the Newport Beach film Festival in April-May and the Hyatt Regency Newport Beach Jazz Festival in May.

"Woman in the Dunes (砂の女, Suna no onna?, also translated as Woman of the Dunes) is a novel by Kobo Abe and a film based on the novel directed by Hiroshi Teshigahara. The novel was published in 1962, and the film was released in 1964. Kobo Abe also wrote the screenplay for the film version.
The surreal and, at times, absurd nature of Woman in the Dunes has been compared to existentialist works such as Sartre's No Exit and Beckett's Happy Days. Aside from its intriguing premise, this film is notable for the life that Teshigahara brings to the ever shifting sand, which almost becomes a character in its own right.
The film adaptation of Woman in the Dunes won the Special Jury Prize at the 1964 Cannes film festival and, somewhat unusually for an avant-garde film, was nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar in the same year"

This truck got more air than any of us on our bikes and 4 wheelers, and still drove home smoothly. The driver and pass. had to stop to treat minor concussions, but the truck - fine. It was severly bent and wrinkled, but it drove 200 miles home and to work the following week. She needed a little framework and new front fenders, a new AC pulley, but that was about it. No other problems developed from this most ruling event other than three rims leaking air over the following year. It didnt even need an alignment! Did you know only GM uses FORGED lower control arms on the 1500's? I challenge you Toyota, Honda or Dodge. Yea... go ahead try it.
