Mercy Care Centre is a Christian, non-government school providing quality education (primary and secondary), a daily nutritious meal, and spiritual guidance to hundreds of children who would otherwise be trapped in a life of poverty and despair in one of Nairobi's largest slums: Mathare Valley.
The children thrive in the positive, safe and loving atmosphere. The teachers are committed to their work; building relationships with their students and caring about the whole child: physical, emotional and spiritual.
The school has competed and won at local and national levels in music and sport. They continue to impress and inspire people around the world with their talent, potential, strength and faith.
Mercy Care has been actively involved in emergency relief in the recent violence that erupted over Kenya's elections. Mathare Valley was one of the hardest areas hit by the riots, yet the school continued to stay open and operated as a refuge for IDPs and vulnerable teenage girls. The school helped to relocate 20 families whose homes had burnt down and brought food and other essential supplies to hundreds of people hiding inside their homes. Mercy Care is operating entirely on funds from generous doners.
