The Tennessee Tooters were the label name of the group of finest mid-1920s instrumentalists, who performed a few recording sessions for Vocalion, in 1924-1926:
Harry Reser (banjo); Bennie Krueger (alto saxophone, C-melody saxophone); Red Nichols (trumpet); Miff Mole, Vincent Grande (trombone); Rube Bloom (piano); Gus Helleberg (bass instrument); Harry Lottman (drums).

| Leo Marjane & Brassai - Seule ce soir, 1941 - 203 sec
Leo Marjane was one of great French singers of 1930s and 1940s. Her unique "sadly grinning" deep voice and a strong dramatic expression were, two decades later, an inspiration for another great star of the French chanson - Juliette Greco. Leo Marjane's grand career had an abrupt end with the end of WWII. The French remembered, that during the occupation she entertained the Nazis with a little too much enthusiasm. After 1945 she retired.
This beautiful melancholic slow-fox was composed by Charles Trenet. The music is illustrated by the photos of one of the greatest photographers of the 20 century, Brassai (his Hungarian name was Gyula Halas).

| Swinging London: Ambrose & His Orch. - Too Many Tears, 1932 - 202 sec
Bert AMBROSE (1897-1971), the bandleader & violinist, in 1927 he was elected musical director of the exclusive Mayfair Hotel at a then record annual fee of £10,000 and whose outfit was by the early 1930s regarded as crème de la crème among British bands. He paid the best money and got the finest players, many of whom went on to become bandleaders themselves. It might be interesting to ponder just how many of the rich and famous clients who danced to Ambrose's sophisticated arrangements were aware that their favourite was the son of an East End rag-and-bone man.
